Will Wonka Under Fire! It has come to my knowledge that there is talk of remaking Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. For some reason I cannot wrap my mind around the reasoning for such a blatant slap in the face to a movie that reached cult status the moment is was released. This simply proves my point that Hollywood and all that place their hands on the horns of the devil, is bored. They, the ones who create and devour, have lost the creative edge that once produced wondrous and fantastic motion pictures. What is also as troubling and nauseating, is that the little bird also mentioned that Brad Pitt and his “actress” wife, Jennifer Aniston are behind this nightmare. Now, for the record, I am a fan of most Brad Pitt movies: 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, Se7en, Kalifornia, yet not Ocean’s 11. He is indeed a credible actor, but I am sure there more needy projects he can concentrate his engery on. However, I digress. We need to band together to stop such idiotic displays that allows anyone with a pinch of power in Hollywood to rummage through classics and think they are doing moviegoers a service by remaking, remolding and rehashing something that should be left well enough alone! What does Brad and Jen, or any celeb that puts the wheels in motion for such a project, think they will accomplish by infecting Willy Wonka with a 21st century spin? All they will potential do is spend vast amount of time, money and resources and end up with what we all witnessed with the remake of Psycho: time badly spent. The only shinning light is that Tim Burton is set to direct the movie, however. I hope he does not remake the film in his usal dark calling card. Now, on the slight chance I have heard wrong, and the above project is not in fact in production, I do so humbly apologize to the sensitive ears and souls of all actors within ear shot. However, this is not to say projects like this will not happen. There needs to be some sort of committee/governing body that oversees such endeavors and is able to cancel projects that will no doubt ruin, mangle and discredit the very movie they are attempting to pay homage to.
