Reality (TV) Bites!

From Survivor to Fear Factor to Big Brother to Boy Meets Boy, the Reality TV craze has become more unwatchable than ever. The reality trend, mostly borrowed, stolen or bought from our English brothers and sisters, has morphed into this ridiculous combination of the attention depraved and a hideous interpretation of 15 minutes of fame. Gone are the days of families winning money for vacation or tuition and grand prizes. These semi-scripted shows have been replaced by sensationalistic fully-scripted shows that showcase people consuming congealed horse's blood, plotting and back stabbing their own teammates to people marrying after knowing each other for 2 minutes or for the shear greediness of the all mighty dollar.

Are we that bored as a national community that we crave to see others eat meat that goats would turn away? See women break down and cry on national TV because the man she knew for oh, three days, didn't give her a rose? Have hobbies and outside interests dwindled to such a degree that our main concern when we get home from work is to see if Chris was kicked out of the house? I say not.

We are witnessing the real-time, systematic dumbing down of America. We claim to be the earth's dominating mental force yet everyday that goes by and we subject ourselves to this drivel, you can almost hear a brain cell seep out of your ear and land on the potato chip stained floor.

This morbid curiosity that has swept across the U.S. has to end somewhere. Maybe when someone dies when performing a stunt or eating something. Nah. The ratings would be to high to stop then.
