All New Episodes? We all watch TV. Right? Whether you are addicted to your favorite shows on Monday, Thursday or even Sunday, we all enjoy watching some sort of TV programming (for those of you who think it cool and more educational not to have a TV, bugger off). I'll tell ya the truth, I wait to see what happens on ER each week, who Dennis Franz will insult next on NYPD Blue and what the young Superman will learn on Smallville. Now, this is all well and good, if there are actually new episodes on! This season, at least this is the first time I became aware of it, the new saying on network TV is "...all new episodes for the rest of the season!" I'm sorry. Excuse me? Are we supposed to applaud you? I have two words for you: New Season. That's right. And with those two simple, yet powerful words, means, new shows. Not a recap of last year, not a new episode every so often while the actors try there hand in a movie career, which usually falls to the ground faster than a piano set on fire and dropped off the roof of 50 story building. And we especially do not want to see "new" episodes that are merely 7 minutes of new footage and the rest are flash backs from episodes of past, i.e., Friends. I say if you are going to have an actual New Season, make it one. Tape new shows. Produce new and inventive scenarios between characters and their situations. That is what I want to see, and I hope that goes the same for you. What I don't want to see is actors getting paid $1 million dollars per episode and meeting their public only a quarter of the way. Now, let's be real, TV is just TV. It's not curing any disease or planning the peace talks for the world. However, don't pat yourselves on the back when you only produce 10 new episodes in 22-week programming period. Remember this, my TV going audience, the next time you hear that trained voice over talent on your TV as he/she boasts: "That's right, all new episode from Will & Grace...for the rest of season," there might only actually be 2 weeks left in the season. Thanks for listening, |
