Road to Perdition

Tom Hanks shows his violent side in Road to Perdition, playing the hitman Michael O'Sullivan, as he carries out orders by his boss, played by Paul Newman.

The movie, on many levels, was a looking-glass into the struggles a father has in what he needs to do to provide for his family, be a good father and husband, while at the same time, dealing with his personal demons. As a hitman during the depression, Michael O'Sullivan was pulled under the wing of the local city boss (Paul Newman) at a very young age and given a home, money and a job--killing.

When O'Sullivan's personal and private life collide, and his wife played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, and younger son are killed by the very family he works for, O'Sullivan and his eldest son flea the city while being hunted by a skilled hitman, played by Jude Law.

The title says it all. Every character that played their part in this story, somehow or another, drove their life to the road of eternal damnation and utter destruction. Murder, deception, heartbreak and loyalty find themselves at the cross-roads of a father's heart as he realizes his choice is clear: protect his son and make sure he does not wind up a killer like his father.

Do not see this movie if you are depressed, recently broke up with someone or just got fired. This is not a "feel good movie" yet it does get you thinking about your own father (or mother) and the sacrafices they made to build a home and a family around you.
