Red Dragon

We journey back before The Silence of the Lambs into a time when Dr. Hannibal Lector was a respected man, a pillar of the community. A host who threw lavish parties after grand symphonies, only to serve a murdered orchestra member to his guests; a flutist that rubbed him the wrong way.

Ed Norton plays FBI agent Will Graham who is praised for his capture of "The Cannibal", Hannibal Lector in the opening moments of the film. Years later, and retired from the bureau, Will Graham is contacted to head up a new investigation, this time a serial killer who places pieces of mirror in his victims' eye sockets. The story line was simple enough and very effective to finally introduce the move going audience into the background of who Lector was, how he became and his close association with the FBI.

Red Dragon returns to the pure story telling and character detail we fell in love with in The Silence of the Lambs, but fell short in Hannibal. With a cast of brilliant actors: Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Harvey Keitel, they create an intriguing balance of story telling and suspense, weaving the viewer into the web of psychological wonders. Playing the Red Dragon, Fiennes' character was an abused, mentally crippled child. His character finds himself struggling with his own wishes and those of the Red Dragon.
