RAY

Honestly, I was never a fan of Ray Charles’ music. Not that I did not or could not recognize one of the greatest musicians of our time, his revolutionary sound and spirit, I simply never actually sat down and really listened to his music. After watching “Ray” on the big scream, although just a movie, it opened my eyes to what Ray Charles was, how his music touched so many people, and that his music will be around for just as long as Elvis or Frank Sanatra.

Jamie Foxx raised the bar quite more than a few notches with his performance portraying the young Ray Charles, battling drugs, womanizing, and the onslaught of people looking for the next best way to swindle Ray and use his talent for their own advance.

Look for "Booger" from Revenge of the Nerds, playing a bald Turkish record producer. Good stuff.

Unfortunately, most people are not aware of the hardships or the downside to being a performer, let alone an African American musician such as Ray Charles dealing with segregation in the mid-1900’s. This movie shows that Ray Charles, as with most talent, was not an over night success. His kind of talent went though a metamorphosis like none other. I would recommend to anyone, go out, buy one of his CDs and just sit and listen. You just might learn something.
