WAR OF THE WORLDS

The remake of the H.G. Wells’ dramatic classic opens new doors to the overall scope of the film due to special effects and the brilliant story telling of Steven Spielberg. Acting by Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning fell right in line with the movie’s energy and portrayal of both a family and world in crisis.

The aliens did not land, they were always here…for over a million years to be exact. Ships that were buried under our feet were silently manned by freakish lightening storms, carrying pods that split through the ground and begun the invasion.

Morgan Freeman lent his voice for narration as Tim Robbins portrayed a disturbed man, bent on destroying the alien tri-pods even if it risked getting others killed in the process.

In all the special effects were state-of-the-art and spot on, not over done by Mr. Bruckheimer and what he likes to call “movies”. The tri-pods sounded like machine, not some simple whisper quite alien technology you never quite understand how they work.

However, (isn’t here always an however here?) I will say that the movie was headed in the right direction until it ended. Twenty minutes before the curtain came down is where the director lost me and I left disappointed. He allowed the ending credits to explain just how the aliens were defeated, in a simple, non dramatic fashion. And to add insult to injury, the attack was not thwarted by any human interaction, which fizzled on screen like pop rocks in Pepsi.
