Comedian Making someone laugh has said to be one of the most difficult things to do. Start from nothing and end with a joke, a story, a clever aside that makes someone, and hopefully everyone else, laugh. Comedian, shot as a documentary, takes all of us from in front of the stage to behind the scenes into the life of stand up comedy, Jerry Seinfeld, and the insightful minds of some of today’s named comics. When a headliner at a stand up show is on for say, over an hour on stage, I can safely say you’re missing out on the close to two years of preparation they had to go through to deliver the polished, cleaned up, spotless material that seems to flow effortlessly from their mind. Comedian shows you what it takes to make to create a mere 15-minute routine, which took Jerry 4-6 months to complete. The film lets you in on the conversations between comedians before they go up on stage. You see just how nervous they are, even more so then when they started 15-25 years ago. Having experienced the stand up bug for nearly 5 years myself, the movie was an eye-opener, yet at the same time, brought the comics down to a more visible level. If you are a comic, interested in becoming a comic, or simply a fan, see Comedian. You won’t be sorry. The only drawback to this movie was the obnoxious presence of Orny Adams.
