ETERNAL SUNSHINE

Jim Carrey plays Joel, a man who realizes his long-term girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has used an experimental procedure to erase him from her memory. Bothered by the fact that he is still in love with his ex-girlfriend, he decides to undergo the same procedure. During the procedure, which fills most of the movie, we see each and every moment Joel and Clementine spent together and shared eradicated from his memory. However, Joel decides he does not want to forget about Clementine and begins to hide her in areas of his mind she does not belong. In turn, even though the procedure is completed, they still find themselves with each other in the end.

I had mixed emotions going into this movie, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by not only the pace of the film, but Jim Carrey's performance. No wacky antics, no funny faces or cheap jokes. Just an honest actor giving an honest effort. And Winslet digs into her character and does not let go. Even though it ran about 20-30 minutes too long, for my taste, there's no time wasted seeing this movie.
